Journeys Into Abstraction – Paintings and Collages by Annabel Ossel

Private View: Friday 14th June, 18.30 - 20.30

In art as in life, you never know when you have arrived at where you want to be, or if you ever will. Perhaps the journey is more important than the destination.
Building on her abstract work, in this one-week show Eagle Gallery member Annabel Ossel’s kaleidoscopic range of paintings and collages reveals the artist’s recent progress.
The paintings predominate, with bold colours drawing the attention of the viewer. Shape, line and pattern support and often provide playful elements, but they remain subservient to colour. Whilst abstraction grants the freedom to use an infinite combination of colour and shape, all the elements in each painting are organised to create a coherent entity.
Annabel’s collages derive partly from her paintings. She creates them from cut or torn pieces of paper that she has painted with the remains of the acrylic paint she uses on her canvases. She then manipulates theses random pieces into collages. In a virtuous circle, the collages in turn inform new painting.
Annabel has been a member of the Eagle Gallery for seven years. She exhibits in their regular group shows, as well as smaller ones, such as the recent printmaking and abstraction exhibitions and last year’s Open Studios. Annabel completed a Foundation art course in London before becoming a picture researcher for publishers and other media. She later attained a BA Hons in art history.
Annabel will be in the gallery each afternoon during the show.
